A Guide to Tarpon Fishing

Tarpon, also known as “the Silver King,” are a highly-prized gamefish for their large size, brute strength, and challenging nature as quarry. Once hooked, tarpon are known for explosive jumps and long, blistering runs which make them a fan favorite of experienced anglers.  Highly migratory and adaptive, these fish thrive in a wide range of salinities, and even boast a vestigial air lung, courtesy of their prehistoric ancestors.  This gives them the ability to breathe air by gulping at the surface or “rolling,” which may reveal their whereabouts to watchful anglers.

AnyCreek works with expert guides across several beautiful locations who specialize in tarpon fishing.  For those looking for a heart-thumping, highly-visual challenge — tarpon may be the perfect target on your next trip to paradise.

Jack Given

Islamorada, Florida

I’m a young, full-time backcountry guide out of Angler House Marina in Islamorada, Florida. I fish out of a 2014 Maverick HPX 17V with a 70 HP Yamaha. My burning passion for flats fishing and guiding started growing from the first day I took my Whaler into Florida Bay. I enjoy building relationships with my clients and look forward to fishing them year after year, watching their skill levels grow, and helping them make their dreams come true.

Steve Friedman

Islamorada, Florida

Capt. Steve Friedman grew up spending his summers playing in the waters near his grandparents’ house in central Illinois. The small lake was home to various species of aquatic life like bluegill, bass, crappie, catfish, and carp. His zeal for fishing took him next to Vail, Colorado, where he guided anglers down the white waters of the Colorado, Eagle and Roaring Fork Rivers, hot on the trail of brown, rainbow, and brook trout. Wanting to fish year round, Capt. Steve soon made the decision to permanently relocate to South Florida and guide full time in the Florida Keys where he now lives.

Evan Noponen

Naples, Florida

Over the years I have fished some great waters but I truly think nothing compares to the Everglades and 10,000 Islands. It challenges you in ways most fisheries won’t but yields some of the most rewarding and spectacular views.

I love teaching people about the waters I fish and how to effectively learn in each situation. I fish through my clients and I think that helps bridge the gap between communication and hooking up to the fish. Especially for someone maybe hasn’t fished my area before.
